Temica Johnson aka The Kitchen Magician, is the owner and Head Chef of Soul in the City. Temica has always had a passion for cooking and creating meals. Temica was introduced to the wonders of the kitchen as a young girl helping her grandmother make dinner for the family. Her and her grandmother would make all kinds of food. She learned how to make mac and cheese that is out of this world, along with collard greens. ribs, fried chicken, and potato salad. For years, Temica has been told how delicious her food is. Her friends would always tell her things like, “You should be selling this food it’s so good,” or “God has blessed you with the gift of making stomach’s happy.” She is constantly asked to share her recipes or to cook for special occasions. She has cooked for countless birthday parties and in 2010, Temica had the pleasure of catering for her sister’s wedding reception. Temica also enjoys baking, and in 2013, she started a small cupcake business out of her home. In 2016, Temica completed a professional cooking course at Star Career Academy. Her internship at the Salvation Army helping to feed the homeless was the beginning of her professional career as a chef. She has worked as a Line Cook, a Head Chef, Personal Chef and most recently as a Cook/Kitchen Manager. In 2018, she was accepted into the Food Business Pathways program where she was given the tools to learn how to become an owner of a food business. That is when Soul in the City was born.
